The bringer of light and innovation in Room 7 📍 in the historic Palazzo Giureconsulti is Kevin Raaijmakers, changemaker and commercial director of lighting company Signify. The global lighting company Signify, formerly the lighting division of Philips Lighting, 3D-prints lighting fixtures from recycled materials on a global scale; the material usage and manufacturing process result in a CO2 footprint that is up to 76% lower than that of lamps made using traditional methods and materials.

Kevin Raaijmakers and Marc Van Der Heijden recently met through Ben van Elk (MBA) and Nicole Uniquole of Masterly. It was an instant perfect match. Dutch Design lamps 3D-printed from recycled materials and Dutch Design furniture 3D-printed from waste. Without unnecessary inventory—and thus overproduction and even more waste. And the design and materials are chosen so that they can be reused when they’re returned. Truly circular—and not just window dressing.

The collaboration that has emerged between the giant Signify and the scale-up TRIBOO EU is fascinating and interesting in many ways. The large organization prints small products such as light fixtures, while the small organization prints large products such as tables, planters, and lampshades. Both organizations are convinced that finding new ways to use the raw materials we throw away every day—and changing how we produce and distribute them—will bring about a major positive change in the world. It’s a different approach—one to which everyone can contribute—to make this a reality. The result: reduced material use, lower CO2 emissions, and zero waste.
