Waste streams of plastics and natural fibers can find their way back into use as valuable products in the design of offices, stores, hotels, or schools.

What people often don’t realize is that your own organization’s waste can be turned into innovative products. Discover how discarded items such as bottles, drinking cups, computer parts, CDs, children’s toys, refrigerators, beer crates, soap bottles, vacuum cleaners, hemp, paper, cardboard, and even work uniforms can serve as raw materials for circular furniture and products. Through innovative techniques, they’re transformed into circular tables, planters, lamps, acoustic panels, and walls—all reflecting your own circular story and identity.

How does the research and development program for products made from your own waste work:

The program is carried out in phases. After each phase, there is an evaluation and a “GO” or “NO GO” decision based on the outcome. The program offers two research tracks: transforming waste into a compound suitable for 3D printing furniture structures and objects; or creating recycled textiles that can be used to make products or as finishing materials.

The program consists of 5 phases:  

  1. Feasibility Study on Recycled Textile Compounds
    • Deliver 50 kilograms of material.
    • Determine whether your own waste is suitable and safe for use in making circular products.
    • Samples and testing.
  2. Proof of Principle
    • Further investigation of the material to determine whether it can be used to make a product.  
    • Your own waste will be used in a pilot project, including research and testing.  
  3. Collection and Pickup
    • Delivery of waste material in accordance with TRIBOO specifications
    • On-site waste collection and transport to the factory
    • Compounding, pulping, and defibering of waste into new raw materials
    • Processing recycled raw materials into base materials
  4. Creating the Custom Product
    • Processing Materials into Products
  5. Delivery
    • The product will be delivered to your location in the Netherlands

What started with viewing a 3D printed tulip vase and then driven by commitment and enthusiasm, many more circular solutions turned out to be possible, which were eventually realized in the building. TRIBOO gave "working together on housing" a much broader dimension and a story to go with it.
