The design story of TRIBOO and Goossens, published on the FENIX websites.

Less material, waste, and emissions: Goossens and TRIBOO present a circular table system made with FENIX®. In the Netherlands, the furniture retailer Goossens and TRIBOO—which produces furniture from waste materials—are launching a circular table system with FENIX® tabletops for the Dutch and Belgian markets.

These tables represent a first step toward the collaborative creation of circular furniture, using fewer materials and reducing CO2 emissions and waste.

The top support is made of #greengridz: a construction panel for circular furniture that is lightweight, 30 mm thick, and extremely durable, and which uses about 70% less material and emits 60% less CO2 compared to particleboard, plywood, or MDF.

“The FENIX table system is designed for those who want to dine without worries. It strikes the perfect balance between sustainability, functionality, and style. The tabletop is made of sustainable #greengridz® and finished with FENIX Bloom,” says Goossens.

FENIX’s Bloom technology, which is based on lignin, reduces the amount of phenol in the resin of the material’s core by 50%. Lignin is a byproduct of the wood industry and is the second most abundant natural polymer in the world after cellulose. Its use in thermosetting resins is innovative.

The aesthetic durability also contributes to the tables’ sustainability, as Goossens reiterates: “The ultra-matte surface of FENIX doesn’t show fingerprints, and its proprietary technology ensures the tabletop’s longevity. Even after years, the table can look as good as new.”

Furthermore, one advantage of the tables' circular design is that, at the end of their life cycle, the tabletops can be recycled through a pyrolysis process, transforming them into activated carbon, which is used to make filters for water and air.

Available in eight colors—FENIX Nero Ingo, Grigio Aragona, Grigio Londra, Castoro Ottawa, Beige Arizona, Bianco Kos, and Blu Fes—and in various shapes, ranging from rectangular to oval to organic silhouettes, the tables are available in the Netherlands and Belgium.
