The Shard was designed based on three clear principles: simplicity, light weight, and space efficiency. Instead of adding unnecessary material to create a fully self-supporting structure, the Shard makes clever use of its existing surroundings. The seating element rests against the wall, making it ideal for use in pods, boxes, alcoves, and other spaces where every square meter counts.

The lightweight components do not need to be anchored to the floor or walls and are easy to install, move, and reuse. This allows Shard to adapt to changing office environments without requiring major modifications to the space.
