Round table made from 8 old planters

TRIBOO

This circular meeting table is made from eight discarded planters from the offices of Nationale-Nederlanden. The reclaimed wood has been crafted into a distinctive herringbone pattern and combined with an inlay of meadow grass and lavender. In this way, materials that would otherwise have been discarded as waste are given a new, long-lasting use in interior design.

Round table made from 8 old planters

From discarded planters to a characterful gathering table

Hundreds of planters were no longer needed following the renovation of the Nationale-Nederlanden offices in The Hague and Rotterdam. As part of the Workspace2020 project, Nationale-Nederlanden and TRIBOO developed a solution in which the valuable wooden components were salvaged and repurposed as circular tables.

What makes this %circular table% special?%

The table immediately demonstrates what is possible when existing materials are treated not as waste, but as raw materials. The wooden parts of the old planters were carefully disassembled, sorted, and reprocessed into a sturdy tabletop. The wood was laid out in a striking herringbone pattern. As a result, at first glance, it is hardly noticeable that the table is made from discarded materials.

Harvested at %Nationale-Nederlanden%

The planters used were sourced from the Nationale-Nederlanden offices in The Hague and Rotterdam. Instead of disposing of the planters and incinerating the materials, they were salvaged from the interior during the renovation. Some of the recovered material was reused in the renovated Nationale-Nederlanden offices. Other wooden components were made available for circular tables at other organizations.

A tabletop with a herringbone pattern and %natural inlay%

The reclaimed wood is arranged in a carefully constructed herringbone pattern. This layout gives the tabletop a high-quality and distinctive look, while variations in color, texture, and signs of wear keep the material’s history visible. In this version, the wood is combined with an inlay of meadow grass and lavender. This brings together various natural byproducts into a single tabletop with its own material narrative.

What started with viewing a 3D printed tulip vase and then driven by commitment and enthusiasm, many more circular solutions turned out to be possible, which were eventually realized in the building. TRIBOO gave "working together on housing" a much broader dimension and a story to go with it.

Pieter and Peter find it very interesting and fun to work with TRIBOO. They deliver products that are completely in line with our circular objectives. They take us along in the development and knowledge of materials, binding techniques and modular constructions made on Dutch soil. They simply show us what it is made of and that appeals. They also help us tell "the circular story".

Massaro: 'We chose this furniture because it is made of worthless waste that would otherwise have made a negative impact on our planet. Now the waste has become cool and fun furniture. All those thousands of employees and visitors who will be using the rooms will see the story, read it, and may be inspired to do the same'.
