Unusual Black

Discarded textiles as the basis for timeless design

Unusual Black demonstrates that textile waste doesn’t have to be the end of the line. Fibers from sources such as old clothing are transformed into a new seat with a distinctive dark look. Combined with the wooden base, the result is a high-quality chair for offices, conference rooms, restaurants, and other professional interiors.

What makes %Unusual Black% special?%

The seat shell of Unusual Black is made from recovered textile fibers. Triboo cites waste streams from items such as jeans, military clothing, lab coats, and tailored suits. These fibers are combined with a bio-based binder and molded under pressure into a strong, three-dimensional seat. The pressing process creates a compact material with a matte, natural appearance. The original fibers remain partially visible, ensuring that the circular story is not hidden but, rather, becomes an integral part of the design.

A dark seat shell with a %unique identity%

The dark color of Unusual Black results from the chosen combination of recycled textile fibers. The collection includes, among other things, the so-called “Suits” variant, in which discarded suits are transformed into a stylish black-gray material. Because the composition of the collected textiles can vary from one production batch to another, slight variations in color and fiber structure may occur. As a result, no two chairs are completely identical. It is precisely these natural differences that give each Unusual Black chair its own character and identity.

%Scandinavian design% and circular use of materials

The Unusual Chair is inspired by Scandinavian design. Its clean lines, refined wooden details, and meticulously crafted joints give the chair a timeless look. The wooden frame also provides extra back support and creates a warm contrast with the dark seat shell. Thanks to this combination, the Unusual Black fits seamlessly into a wide variety of settings. The chair can be used at a conference table, in a restaurant or cafeteria, in an educational setting, or as a standalone chair in a reception or meeting area.

What started with viewing a 3D printed tulip vase and then driven by commitment and enthusiasm, many more circular solutions turned out to be possible, which were eventually realized in the building. TRIBOO gave "working together on housing" a much broader dimension and a story to go with it.

Pieter and Peter find it very interesting and fun to work with TRIBOO. They deliver products that are completely in line with our circular objectives. They take us along in the development and knowledge of materials, binding techniques and modular constructions made on Dutch soil. They simply show us what it is made of and that appeals. They also help us tell "the circular story".

Massaro: 'We chose this furniture because it is made of worthless waste that would otherwise have made a negative impact on our planet. Now the waste has become cool and fun furniture. All those thousands of employees and visitors who will be using the rooms will see the story, read it, and may be inspired to do the same'.
